OUR NEIGHBORHOOD – RICH IN COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Stamford Health

The West Side is home to attractive, architecturally distinctive mixed-income communities – Fairgate, Westwood and Palmer Square – with integrated “green building” standards.

Walkability and access to recreation is the hallmark of Lione Park, adjacent to the Boys & Girls Club and nearby Westover Magnet School encouraging healthy physical activity.

The expanded campus of Stamford Health features a new hospital tower and integrated physician center. The high/tech, high/touch Planetree Hospital is the economic heartbeat of Stamford as its largest employer. Soon to be completed are walkability, parking and landscaping enhancements to the campus.

The Yerwood Center is home to Jackie Robinson Park, an oasis of green space on West Main Street. West Siders and visitors enjoy the array of seasonal food trucks at lunchtime.

Boys & Girls Club

Boys & Girls Club provides recreation, after-school and summer camp programs. The organization also runs the Yerwood Center which also provides after-school care and recreation. Their newly refurbished pool is now fully operational. Visit www.bgcastamford.org to learn more.

Fairgate Farm

We grow food in the West Side – at Fairgate Farm on Stillwater Avenue. A volunteer-driven farm is the heart of the Vita Health & Wellness District. The growing attraction of Fairgate Farm as an agricultural learning health center is changing the conversation about access to and incorporation of fresh vegetables into healthy diets. The farm offers a busy event calendar of free, open-to-all, culturally appropriate healthy cooking demonstrations and tastings, hands-on planting and harvesting, and interactive nutrition lessons. Visit fairgatefarm.com for more information.
